Discover Town Hof & Thanks Chicken

I still remember the first time I walked into Town Hof & Thanks Chicken at 1144 S Western Ave unit107, Los Angeles, CA 90006, United States. It was a busy Friday night, and the smell of freshly fried chicken drifted out the door before I even stepped inside. The dining room felt casual and welcoming, with a mix of families, college students, and locals who clearly had their go-to orders memorized. That kind of steady crowd usually tells you everything you need to know about a place.

The menu focuses on Korean-style fried chicken, and if you’ve ever looked into why this style stands out, it comes down to technique. According to food research published by institutions like the Culinary Institute of America, double-frying locks in moisture while creating a thinner, crispier crust. You can taste that method here. The original crispy chicken has a delicate crunch that doesn’t feel greasy, and the meat inside stays juicy. I’ve tried it both for dine-in and takeout, and even after a 15-minute drive home, the texture held up surprisingly well.

One thing I appreciate is how clearly the menu is organized. You’ll find classic options like soy garlic and spicy glaze alongside combo platters, wings, drumsticks, and whole chicken selections. On my last visit, I ordered the half-and-half option-half soy garlic, half spicy. The soy garlic had that perfect balance of sweet and savory, while the spicy version delivered heat without overwhelming the flavor. For anyone sensitive to spice, the staff is upfront about heat levels, which builds trust and avoids surprises.

Side dishes matter at a chicken spot, and here they don’t feel like an afterthought. The pickled radish cuts through the richness, and the fries come out hot and crisp. I’ve also noticed that many online reviews mention the portion sizes, and I agree-they’re generous. It’s easy to share a combo between two people, especially if you add a side and a drink.

Food safety and quality are things I pay attention to, especially when reviewing restaurants. The kitchen area, visible from certain angles, appears clean and organized. The staff wear gloves and handle orders efficiently. While I don’t have access to their internal sourcing details, Los Angeles County health standards are strict, and establishments in this area are regularly inspected. Based on my visits, the overall cleanliness and food handling practices inspire confidence.

Location-wise, being on Western Avenue makes it convenient for anyone living in or visiting Koreatown. Parking in Los Angeles can be tricky, but there’s usually street parking nearby if you’re patient. Because of its central spot, it’s become a reliable dinner option after events or late work shifts. I’ve recommended it to friends visiting from out of town, and each time, the feedback has been consistent: crunchy, flavorful, and worth the stop.

Another detail that stands out is consistency. In the restaurant industry, maintaining flavor and texture over time is challenging. The National Restaurant Association often highlights consistency as a key factor in customer loyalty, and this place seems to understand that. Across multiple visits over several months, the seasoning, cook time, and presentation have stayed steady. That’s not always the case with busy fried chicken joints.

Of course, no place is perfect. During peak hours, wait times can stretch, especially for freshly fried batches. However, that’s also a sign they’re not rushing the cooking process. Good fried chicken takes time. If you’re planning a visit, ordering ahead for pickup might save you a few minutes.

In a city packed with dining options, from food trucks to upscale bistros, this spot holds its own by focusing on what it does best: crispy Korean fried chicken with bold flavors and dependable quality. Whether you’re browsing reviews for your next casual dinner or searching for a reliable chicken restaurant near 1144 S Western Ave unit107 in Los Angeles, this one delivers on taste, texture, and value without overcomplicating the experience.

  • Ordered a 2 item combo (half and half chicken plus rice cake in rose mara sauce with ramen add on), a half and half chicken order, and a seafood pancake. Our group picked a total of 4 chicken flavors, their original fried chicken, sweet and spicy, habanero garlic chicken, and honey. All of these flavors were very good, the original had a great fried exterior and you could add some of the rose mara sauce from the rice cake to spice it up. The Sweet and spicy chicken was a very light spice, moreso sweet with a syrupy coating on the chicken. The Habanero garlic chicken was spicier if you had a piece of the habanero pepper on it but otherwise, this was an alright choice. The honey chicken was sweet and the syrupy coating was very nice. The rice cake in rose mara sauce with ramen was a mouth watering plate of rice cake, fish cake, glass noodles, and the ramen coated with their creamy and spicy rose mara sauce. This was a big plate to share with a small group. The rice cake and fish cake were chewy and the glass noodles were fun to slurp up. Adding ramen was a good choice as there was plenty of rose mara sauce left to soak up, even some leftover to add to the fried chicken. The seafood pancake was notable for small bite size pieces of calamari and other seafood. It fell apart a bit easily because of the green onion slices that were holding it together. Service was fast, and they were quite patient taking our order. There is a call button installed on the table if you need their attention. The interior is very retro 90s South Korean with brick walls, oversized bench seats and kpop playing in the background. Parking is also adequate with enough above ground parking places. Overall, this is a great place to enjoy a meal with friends together craving Korean style fried chicken.

  • I love this place. The parking is plenty, convenient, and located in a safe & clean Korean plaza. The staff is very kind, attentive, and hospitable, (especially Emily eonni thank you for your wonderful service!!) I ordered the half-half, soy sauce and spicy ones. The fried chicken was cooked perfectly, well-seasoned, well-done and looked so appetizing. I really enjoyed the music here, the retro Korean vibes, overall nice ambiance to hangout with your friends. Wide variety of drink options, Korean snacks, and affordable light midnight foods- on top of their popular yangnyeom tongdak. The side salads paired well with the chicken. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in Koreatown area and looking for a trendy place while enjoying the nightlife. Looking forward to come back and take my friends here soon!

  • 10/29/25: Excellent 8 piece garlic chicken wings. (The garlic flavor is sweet btw, like honey garlic).

  • Food was so delicious. Exactly how I wanted the tteokbokki to taste and the fried chicken wings were crispy and full of flavor. We got the sweet & spicy and the garlic. Service was amazing! Very nice and quick to accommodate. I’d bring my Korean parents here. Will come back again!

  • Fairly good food with a weeknight happy hour from 5pm-7pm for soju and bottled beer. All of the food ordered was tasty. The rosé mala ddeokbokki was an interesting try, but I think I’ll go for the plain rosé or classic next time. The interior is a little lacking in charm, but this is a fine place for casual drinking/eating.

  • Their fried chickens were pretty good, and other food that we ordered were just average. They have happy hours until 7 pm.

  • Whoah. How is this place so unspoken of? I’ve never heard of this place until I came here with a friend. Their chicken was some of the best Korean friend chicken I’ve had in ktown. Their 양념 is on pointtt. Lots of seating and TVs too for sports days. The only thing I have against this place is the slow service.
